Book Review - Little Princes, by Conor Grennan

There was a civil war in Nepal from 1996-2006. During this time, children (as young as 5!) were taken from their homes to fight for the Maoist armies. At the same time, child traffickers went to the remote villages and offered "protection" for the children. They would take the children to the big city, in exchange for money (often all a family had), and give them food, clothing, schooling, and protection. These families, feeling like they had little choice, gave up their children.
Typically the traffickers then would abandon the children in the streets of Kathmandu and other cities. Occasionally they were sold as domestic servants, but most of them were left homeless and helpless.
This is the story of an American man who met some of these children and promised to find their families.
It made me laugh and cry. I fell in love with the children and felt deep respect and admiration for those working with them.
In short, read this book!
