Ghost of Christmas Past: Merry Christmas from Sid and Velma Kopek!

One of Goose cousin's best qualities is that she's extremely friendly. Everybody loves her. And because of that, she knows absolutely everybody.

And so, a few years ago, Mel and I preyed on her friendliness to pull a great Christmas prank.


Goose received a card from Sid and Velma Kopek from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Velma had written a lengthy Christmas letter, detailing the latest events in their grown children's lives. There was a new grandchild, a daughter off to college, and, of course, the bowling league. And best of all, in a personal note, Velma added that they'd be in town when they brought MaryBeth back to school, and they were looking forward to stopping in for a visit.

Poor Goose couldn't remember the Kopeks. She figured they were someone her husband knew, but no, he didn't recall that name.

Finally, we came clean. We were Sid and Velma, and a friend's mom in Eau Claire had mailed the card. Merry Christmas, Goose!
