Gift-giving Suggestions
You know those lists of ideas for the hard-to-shop-for person? Are they ever really the right gift? I read one today that suggested a moving picture (like a beach scene that looks like the water is actually moving) for my husband. I can tell you right now - that's about the last thing Enrique would want. Or a "welcome" sign for my grandma. I'm sure she'd act like she liked it, but she really has no want or need for something like that. How can they just put out general lists for anybody? The point of giving a gift is showing that you're thinking of that person. So why not put some effort into thinking about what the individual likes or needs instead of taking a stranger's suggestions?

I completely agree... maybe instead they could offer lists of questions to ask yourself (or the other person) to figure out what they want. That's why it's so hard to buy for people you don't know very well -- of course, it also seems really hard to buy for certain family members that you should know very well (or for them to buy for you:)
or just go with a gift card
true -- but you have to know the person well enough to know which store (or target works for anyone;)
Also, it is rude to send a check to some un-named person and order them to purchase and wrap a present from them for your children. "I don't know them," is a pretty poor excuse. By them something you think they might like and they will be thrilled that you thought of them. (Sorry, can't vent this one on my own blog for obvious reasons, so I'm tagging on yours:P.)
oh! you guys, get this - so i asked enrique if he'd like a moving picture for Christmas. he actually said yes. i said, "no, for real" and he said yes, he thinks those are cool. i asked him where on earth he'd put it, because the dentist's office would be my only guess. he pointed to an empty spot on the bedroom wall and said, "how about there?" i said, "not in my home"
maybe the gift people are right...

especially when the person who says "i don't know them" is somebody who should make an attempt to get to know them.

Also, my mall has one of those moving picture things that is of "The Last Supper" and the star in the back "moves". That would look nice on your bedroom wall...
