The Rock

I just read a book called Al Capone Does My Shirts, about a boy who lived on Alcatraz in the 1930s. Apparently families of the guards actually lived on the island, so the guards would be quickly available if there was an incident after hours. The families agreed to it because it was during the Depression and jobs and housing were hard to find. I don't think I'd want to live on the prison grounds.
