Mom Rule #4
Thou shalt not wave at your daughter's friends.
How about this daughter rule, Erma - if your mom is kind enough to go pick up your friend, and you won't go into the building because you're wearing slippers, so your mom has to go instead, she can wave, dance, sing show tunes or pretty much do whatever her little heart desires.

p.s. - i told her my rule for her, and she said, "fine. you can wave."
i noticed that she didn't say 'ok, i'll go in.'
